Beautiful Teeth

General Restorative

In the past, teeth were most commonly repaired with amalgam (silver) fillings. Thanks to advances in modern dental techniques and materials, teeth can now be restored with a natural looking material.

There are different types of cosmetic fillings currently available. The type used will depend on the location of the tooth and the amount of tooth structure that needs to be restored.

Composite (white) fillings

A composite  filling is a tooth coloured material that  is placed placed directly into the tooth. It is  then cured by exposing  it to a  strong light. These materials come in a variety of shades, so that they can match the colour of your own teeth. Some of these composite materials have been specifically designed to endure the incredible forces that are  exerted when chewing on your back teeth.

Porcelain Inlays and Onlays

Porcelain  is a stronger material than composite. It is used when there is a large amount of tooth that needs to be restored.

After the tooth is prepared an impression is taken and a temporary restoration fitted. The onlay is then made in a laboratory, and is then fitted at a subsequent visit.

This type of restoration is more expensive than the composite filling, but is longer lasting and can prevent fracturing of the teeth.
