Dental implants

A dental implant is used to permanently replace missing teeth. Dental implants can also be used to provide retention and stability for loose dentures. Dental Implants can often help patients avoid having to have healthy teeth drilled to support a bridge as patients can replace an uncomfortable denture with implant supported crowns that look and feel like natural teeth.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a screw placed into the jawbone, and a crown can then be attached to it to replace a missing tooth.

Attachments can also be fitted to the implants that will allow a denture to "clip on' to them. This will provide a secure and stable denture.

What’s involved?

As dental implants are predominantly made from titanium, their biocompatible properties allow them to bond with the surrounding, tissues, ligaments and bone to form a solid foundation to support a crown, bridge or fixed denture.

Taking this into consideration, following the initial placement of the implant into the jaw it is left for anywhere from 1-3 months while this bonding process takes place. Then, at your next appointment your replacement tooth is affixed to the implant.
